Case Study: The Earnings Dashboard Sprint
Not financial advice. Verify claims independently.
A three-week fixed-price build — calendar, estimates, implied moves — and what we refused to build.
The brief: a fintech client wanted an "earnings hub" for their users — calendar, analyst estimates, implied moves, historical reactions.
What we scoped (3 weeks, fixed price):
- Confirmed dates feed (BMO/AMC tagged)
- Consensus + estimate revision display
- Implied move from options chain
- Post-earnings reaction history per ticker
What we refused to scope:
- Real-time tick data (delayed with clear labeling — honesty over flash)
- Predictive "beat probability" (a liability masquerading as a feature)
- Push alerts (v2; the notification infra wasn't the value)
Shipped on time because the scope was honest. The client wanted ML-powered predictions — we showed them the liability math and they agreed to ship the data product first. Stock Picks's earnings surfaces run on the same pattern.
